जंगल की कहानी का संछिप्त विवरण : जज साहब के लड़के जब शिकार पर जाते तो बक सबसे आगे-आगे चलता। जब शाम को जज साहब की लड़कियाँ, माली और ऐलिस सैर करने जातीं तो बक उनके साथ होता। रात को जब जज साहब अंगीठी के पास बैठकर पुस्तक पढ़ते तो बक उनके पैरों में लेट रहता। जज साहब के पोतों को वह पीठ पर घुमाता और उन्हें घास में लुढ़का देता था। इस तरह सारे बंगले पर बक का राज था। जज साहब के बाग में मैनअल नाम का एक माली था……….
